Firefly meets Indiana Jones in this epic sci-fi action-adventure with a unique alien-invasion twist. Read the complete 5-book series with over 330 global 5-star ratings as a single boxed set.

From book one:

Hudson Powell had always been a drifter, but after his father died, he vowed to turn his life around. He quit freelancing as a starship pilot and joined the Relic Guardian Force as a 38-year-old rookie.

That was a big mistake.

The RGF police the alien wrecks that have been found on every portal world discovered in the last century. They make sure the relic hunters pay taxes on the priceless alien tech they scavenge from the hulks. The snag is that the RGF is corrupt. And Hudson’s training officer Logan Griff is the worst scumbag of the lot.

Pushed over the edge, Hudson stumbles upon the exhilarating world of the relic hunters and meets the equally intoxicating and deadly mercenary Tory Bellona.

Cast out from the RGF, Hudson Powell chooses a new path. But the discovery of a unique alien crystal will set events in motion that cannot be undone. People stopped asking where the alien hulks had come from. People stopped asking who created the portals, and why.

Hudson will discover that some alien relics are best left buried. One decision can change the course of an entire civilization. One discovery can change your life.

Welcome to the world of Allie Nighthawk, corpse whisperer and bad ass zombie hunter.

“If you raise deadheads, you’d better be able to put ‘em down. Nobody said it was pretty. But in this day, when vampires aren’t just for breakfast anymore, and the dead are disposable pawns for necromancers, someone has to ante up. Looks like I won the lotto. Imagine my delight. You should thank me, really, because the world is batshit crazy.”

When the zombie population spikes and no one knows why, it’s up to Allie to solve the mystery. But there’s a hitch. She’s stuck babysitting Leo Abruzzi, a zombie-bitten gangster who’s turning state’s evidence. But the mob and a powerful necromancer will stop at nothing to take Leo and Allie down.

Allie Nighthawk is Anita Blake on steroids, with a fondness for leather and Jack on the rocks. She has a healthy dose of Stephanie Plum and Rachel Morgan in her, too, though she’d never admit it.

There’s a realm. Wreathed in ice and snow, drowning in the dark, Assevan needs a different kind of hero.

There’s a god. Merciless and cold, and quick to anger, the Lord of the Dead insists upon one thing only: vengeance for a murdered soul.

And there’s a man. A ruthless killer, Konrad is detective, judge and executioner in one. Dauntless, relentless, monstrous, he stands alone against the dark.

Meet the Malykant. Justice will be served.

Four cases. Four killers. Four executions. Dark fantasy and murder mystery collide in this first collection of the Malykant Mysteries.

Book Review: The Widow’s of Malabar Hill by Sujata Massey

Book Review: The Widow's of Malabar Hill by Sujata Massey

The Widow’s of Malabar Hill is a mystery … not my usual genre. In fact, I think it may be the first time I have read a mystery since I gave up on a Nancy Drew book my aunt lent me when I was a pre-teen.

The prose wasn’t as lyrical as the fantasy and sci-fi I enjoy, but that might be a function of it being a mystery? I don’t know. Have I mentioned I have never read a mystery?

The setting is what drew me in: 1920s Bombay under the British occupation. The politics of the time and place was striking. In between the Great Wars, with the British, Hindus, Muslims, Parsi, (and more!) all intermingling, it was as dramatic a melting pot–or stew pot–as anything in the U.S.. Perhaps more so, because there is long history of antagonisms between all the groups. The protagonist is a Parsi woman, and I loved seeing her perspective, and that it wasn’t told from the point of view of a British protagonist. (I love you Brits, but it is nice to see India through Indian eyes.) Caste differences, gender roles, religious clashes are all here.

The heroine is both believably flawed and likable, the author’s portrayal of her relationship with the British is complicated and understandable.

I liked it enough to get the next two from my public library, and I hope there are more in the series!
