Harley knows Campbell von Havre is hiding something she won’t like.

Harley von Canmore is a firebird, one of the old races who are emerging across the globe. She is also the Police Chief of the tiny town of Falconer, in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies. Harley’s town is nearly all old race people, which creates challenges that she never faced as a Royal Canadian Mounted Police Officer. That includes dealing with Campbell von Havre, who works tirelessly to support the townsfolk. He is a dragon, and her element’s superior to whom she, as a firebird, must obey.

When the grandson of the town’s doyen, Moira Falconer, is found in a hot tub and Campbell is connected to the death, Harley investigates the mystery surrounding Campbell. But not everyone in Falconer wants Harley digging that deep and the reaction to her investigation is violent…

Falconer folk are a little strange…

Harley von Canmore, firebird and Chief of Police of Falconer, a tiny town in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies, struggles to reconcile her new life as one of the Old Races. It’s Christmas Eve and bitterly cold, yet Harley is setting fire to her bed while she sleeps, paper burns when she touches it, and no one needs a room heater when she’s in it.

When a body is found at the base of Maze Peak lookout, Harley must put aside her personal issues and investigate. What the RCMP suspect is a simple accident grows complicated when she digs a little deeper…

The Orc Who Cried is part of the Harley Firebird urban fantasy series of novelettes, which is set in the same world as Taylen Carver’s Magorian & Jones series.

Here be dragons…

Harley von Canmore is firebird–a rare breed, even among the Old Races. She is also the Chief of Police of Falconer, a tiny town in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies. Falconer is different, just as Harley is. Everyone in the town is either one of the Old Races—orcs, fae, salamanders, and more—or they are human and waiting for their time to transform.

When a dead body is reported, Harley meets Campbell von Havre—the town’s only dragon and her superior, for they are both of the fire element. Only Harley’s twenty years experience as a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer tells her that Campbell is hiding something. When she investigates, what she learns about Campbell puts her in a quandary…

The Dragon of Falconer is part of the Harley Firebird urban fantasy series of novelettes, which is set in the same world as Taylen Carver’s Magorian & Jones series.
